Horizon Air plans to convert the Dash 8-400 to hydrogen propulsion

Production of the de Havilland Dash 8-400 is currently on hold, but this pattern could possibly play a big role in terms of alternative drive systems. Zeroavia and the Alaksa Air Group want to convert the turboprop aircraft to hydrogen-electric operation.

The group of companies has ordered at least one copy. At the same time, 50 options of the so-called ZA2000 kit were secured. Within the Alaska Air Group, the Dash operation is based at Horizon Air. The Dash-Teilfotte currently consists of 32 specimens. If all options for retrofitting were drawn, the fleet would grow.

The range of the "hydrogen dash" should be around 500 nautical miles. The capacity is given as 76 seats. The propulsion is to be provided by electric motors, which, however, still have to be developed. Hydrogen supplies the electricity required. It's a rather long-term project.
