While the camping industry stagnated for years before the Corona pandemic, a considerable increase in demand was achieved during the crisis. Rental vehicles are in short supply again this year. However, another trend developed at the same time, which is called “glamorous camping”. Some hotels are now jumping on these.

What used to be just on campsites and glamping resorts was possible is now part of the standard offer in many hotels. More and more hoteliers are integrating glamping lounges for this, be it in the hotel garden as additional overnight accommodation or in the pool area as a relaxation area.

Deriving from the words glamorous and camping, the term glamping is not a new concept. However, glamping has become a megatrend in recent years, especially in the USA. Ordinary camping isn't for everyone, however, and few want to give up the comfort of a hotel room. With glamping, both components can be combined and it is precisely this mixture of nature and luxury that makes glamping so special. The Austrian hoteliers have also discovered this and are taking advantage of the moment to use otherwise empty space sensibly and sustainably.

Many hotels have a garden that is rarely or never used. In order to change this and expand room capacities, glamping lounges are increasingly being integrated into hotel gardens or by pools as oases of tranquillity. This has advantages for guests and operators alike: "High-quality glamping lounges can remain in place all year round because they are wind and weatherproof, are heated and can be parked anywhere there is free space - including the pool." , says Max Schade, founder & CEO of Strohboid GmbH.

This makes glamping lounges extremely versatile and can be used for much more than just sleeping. From private spa treatments to exclusive business meals and private fine dining to the cocktail lounge by the pool, all options are open. On top of that, guests do not have to freeze or worry about bad weather, which means that the planned events or spa appointments do not have to be canceled even in snow, rain or storms. Nevertheless, you can enjoy the closeness to nature and freedom that you would not have in normal hotel rooms. While initially mainly campsites and specially created glamping resorts offered glamping, it is now mainly hoteliers and restaurateurs who are following suit.
