“Preighter”, the temporary conversion of a passenger plane into a cargo plane, is likely to become a catchphrase this year. Iberia has now put one of these into operation in the form of an Airbus A330-300 for the coming period, when a strong increase in demanded freight volume is expected. “We expect an increase in demand for air freight in the coming months and we want to take advantage of this opportunity. In today's circumstances, we need to adapt to market demands better than ever and this operation will help diversify our income streams while keeping our people active, ”said Iberia Sales Director María Jesús López Solás. In the previous cabin segment for Economy and Economy Plus, up to 33 tons of freight, in addition to belly cargo, can be transported in a total of 18 positions. The converted A330-300 will operate four times a week between Madrid and Los Angeles until further notice.
