The Maldives airline Beond, which specializes in pure business class flights, wants to provide its passengers with virtual reality headsets from the manufacturer Apple on loan in the future. The aim is to present highlights about the island state, entertainment programs and advertising about your own airline.
Currently, Beond machines are not equipped with state-of-the-art IFE systems. Apparently they want to take an alternative route because management expects the Apple Vision Pro headsets to provide a better experience for travelers. They also claim to be the first carrier in the world to make this VR product available to passengers on board on loan.
There is an in-flight entertainment system on board, but this is often criticized because it is not state-of-the-art. According to Beond, this is supposed to be fixed by the Apple headsets. These aim to provide sights, landscapes and information about the Maldives. It will also be possible to access films and games that are otherwise available in the built-in IFES via the VR headsets. In addition, Beond wants to present information and background information about its own airline, which is actually nothing more than self-promotion.
The business class carrier launched last year. In the DA-CH region the first destinations served are: Munich and Zurich. Due to the lack of range of the aircraft used, you have to make a refueling stop. The start was bumpy because demand was initially well below the economic limit. That's why the flight schedule was massively thinned out, but Beond emphasizes that these would only be “seasonal fluctuations”. In Europe they want to in the future also head for Milan-Malpensa, said the company. Only recently has one a second machine was taken over.
