Russia wants to get the Ilyushin Il-114-300 into the air quickly. The first test flight is to be carried out from the Gromov airfield on December 18, 2020. The first roll and engine tests have been carried out since September 2020.

The turboprop aircraft is a modernized variant of the Il-114-100 that was anything but a box office hit. Only 1986 copies of this model were made between 2012 and 20. The Kremlin wants to make Russia more independent from Western manufacturers and has therefore initiated the new version of this regional airliner.

The Il-114-300 should be able to carry 68 passengers and also be able to take off and land on unpaved runways. Series production is scheduled to start in the course of 2022. It is expected that various regional airlines will rely on the pattern. This could also be indirectly subsidized via the state lessors who have placed large orders.
