Fresh Pistachio Dubai Edition: What makes it so unforgettable and does it keep its promises? For all the foodies who don't know it yet, we have made a comparison of 6 Dubai foods to make it easier for you to buy the right Dubai chocolate.
Anyone who follows social media channels and calls themselves a foodie has probably already come into contact with the hype surrounding Dubai chocolate or similar product variations derived from it.
For some time now, transparent plastic canned drinks have been available on the market under the name "Fresh Drinks". The Germany-based company has now also jumped on the "Dubai train" and is currently offering a special "Dubai Edition". Since December 30, 2024, this drink has also been available in branches of the German discounter Aldi Süd. Is it the luxury drink of the year?
The "Fresh Pistachio Dubai Edition" drink is offered in a transparent plastic container that makes the contents visible. The manufacturer of the product tries to give customers a unique drinking experience with a very unique, neon green color of the drink. This beautiful color also increased my interest in the product. I discovered it personally at a gas station. The manufacturer assures the consumer that their drink, the pistachios, which are bottled unsalted and without additional processing, offer a fabulous refreshment.

drink in a transparent plastic container
In practice, however, this is not really relevant, because it is - to put it objectively - a bright green liquid, encased in a transparent container with a print and product information. Personally, I find the design very old-fashioned. I assume that the eye-catcher is the color of the drink and the image of the Dubai chocolate is just to inform the consumer what it might taste like. The taste of the drink hardly reflects chocolate or pistachios. A well-intentioned piece of advice: try the chocolate before trying this drink. This drink has a light aroma that could link it to the original Dubai chocolate.
The can does not correspond to the latest trend of drastically reducing plastic consumption. In times when the aim is to avoid the use of plastics, also known disparagingly as plastic, the use of this packaging material is questionable, although an aluminum can would perform just as poorly in terms of the environmental impact.
According to the manufacturer, the pistachios used in the drink are made exclusively from natural pome fruit and contain no additives. According to the manufacturer, they come from selected growing areas, the exact origin of which is not specified, which is probably intended to encourage environmentally responsible consumers to buy the product. But why is the place of origin not stated? With its minimalist list of ingredients for this product, the "Dubai Edition" is aimed at buyers who value unprocessed food.

Launched by Cologne-based company
The drink is distributed by Cologne-based Boname GmbH, which, according to its company website, has been active in the beverage wholesale and bottling sector for many years. Officially, "Fresh Pistachio Dubai Edition" is said to come from the Netherlands, but the Cologne-based company acts as a responsible company in the sense of German law. Apart from the ingredients, which are printed in various languages, the packaging is not particularly informative regarding the origin and place of production.
The luxury version of the so-called fresh drinks, which are available in many supermarkets and also at gas stations, appears as a bright green liquid when poured into a glass. Visually, it is immediately apparent that the drink is slightly carbonated. The level could be set slightly below that of mild mineral water. Since tastes are known to differ, this product was tasted independently by two testers. The subjective impressions and opinions are presented below to give you an insight into the taste of the product.
Dubai drink in double test
Tester 1 says:
"The drink is clearly marketed based on the hype surrounding the so-called Dubai chocolate, as there is even a chocolate printed on the plastic container. In my opinion, this is somewhat misleading, as it has nothing to do with it, apart from the use of pistachios. After opening it, the first thing I noticed was that "Fresh Pistachio Dubai Edition" has what I subjectively perceive as an artificial smell.
When I first drank it, I noticed little to no taste, but it developed immediately afterwards and remained as a subjective and indefinable aftertaste. It's not my cup of tea and I personally think that the price-performance ratio is not right. However, this depends a lot on the retailer, as I have seen price ranges between 1,59 euros and 2,50 euros and more. Regardless of this, the company is charging a hefty price for 0,33 liters for a drink "that is difficult for me as a consumer to assess in terms of taste."

Tester 2 is of the opinion:
“This drink made me curious about its taste because of its bright green color. The price ranges between 1,59 and 2,50 euros for 0,33 liters. The picture does not represent the contents of the can!
When I bought the drink, I thought the price was OK because I knew that Dubai chocolate costs between 5 and 15 euros per bar. The contents of the can are supposed to imitate the taste of Dubai chocolate, but be available to consumers in a drinkable form. In my opinion, this is a good idea because when we eat chocolate, we often get dirty and have to wash our hands. With the can, you just open it, drink it and throw it away. But what does the image have to do with the taste?
For a consumer like me, who looks for natural flavors in her drinks, this price would be acceptable if it really tasted and smelled like pistachio. But why does the image on the can represent Dubai chocolate and the description of the contents only promises a drink made from pure pistachios with no additives. Where is the promised chocolate? That was very misleading for me as a consumer!
Unfortunately, the best thing about the product is its color! Why do I say something like that? Because I personally didn't expect such a strong carbonated taste, which also spreads a milk chocolate aroma in the nose when opening the can.
After the first sip, I was blown away and felt the need to spit out the green liquid. The image of the Dubai chocolate specialty, the promise of the natural pistachio flavor, is gone. I smell a strong chocolate aroma and the taste is hard to describe. I would best describe it as extremely diluted, long-stale, carbonated chocolate milk.
Store in a cool place instead of at room temperature? would it make a difference? I can't tell you, unfortunately. I haven't put it on ice, but I highly doubt it would make such an extreme difference.
Illustration must go! I would immediately have the picture of the Dubai chocolate removed. The smell is very artificial, the taste is, as already mentioned, very stale and the carbonation is very irritating!
Confusion of the senses! My sense of taste and smell were confused. I saw, read, a natural pistachio flavor, I smelled milk chocolate and when I drank it, a strong taste of stale flavored water overpowered it. When this liquid spread its aroma on my palate, I immediately wanted to spit it out and to be honest, that has never happened to me before. I decide to give the drink a chance and swallow it. At that moment I regret it, shake my head and say to myself, "Over my dead body", I go to the kitchen and empty the remaining contents into the sink. The unpleasant smell of this drink irritates me so much that I immediately take the can to the garbage room.
And finally ... I don't regret taking this leap of faith towards this product. As a foodie, I will always follow my curiosity and try new products on the market. However, I prefer to stick with chocolate."
