The Infrastructure Report 2022 shows that around 74 percent of those surveyed are in favor of expanding the Vienna air traffic hub. 59 percent expect the capacities of their domestic airports to be increased and multimodal connections to be improved.

“The renaissance of aviation after the crisis is a key location issue. Without Vienna Airport, we would not be as successful in exports or tourism as we are or want to be again, ”explains Günther Ofner, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.

Austria's largest airport lost in the area of transfer traffic even before the corona pandemic. The background is, among other things, that the former Niki hub has disappeared and that point-to-point services from low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air have become more established. The crisis and the associated entry and quarantine regulations in various countries also had a significant impact on the AUA hub in Vienna.
