On October 30, 2023, the company fire department at Innsbruck Airport had a mission that was definitely not an everyday occurrence, as the Florianis extinguished a vehicle fire on the A1 West Autobahn, just before Wels.

The employees of the Innsbruck airport fire department were actually supposed to travel to Vienna for training purposes. So-called “Hot Fire Drills” should be practiced there. However, the Florianis' skills were already in demand on the western motorway shortly before Wels.

The firefighters saw a vehicle on the hard shoulder that obviously had a problem that required their skills. According to an official statement from the airport, smoke was clearly visible. This was interpreted as a kind of operational order, because the fire department employees immediately stopped and unpacked the fire extinguishers that they had carried in their company vehicle.

The fire was brought under control and extinguished within a short time. The airport would like to say to the Florianis, for whom their job is clearly much more than just a job, “Many thanks to our colleagues for their courageous efforts.”

The quick intervention of the Innsbruck firefighters also had a decisive advantage for uninvolved motorists. The experts already had the situation under control before the official emergency services arrived. Therefore there was only a very slight restriction on traffic.
