International discount for rail travel: Railplus is discontinued

Holders of railway discount cards such as the ÖBB Vorteilscard or the DB Bahncard will have to say goodbye to discounts on cross-border train journeys at the end of 2023. The background is that Railplus is being discontinued.

Originally, you could get a discount of up to 25 percent on the foreign part of the route for cross-border train journeys. A few years ago the discount was reduced to 15 percent. According to Deutsche Bahn AG, the international railway association UIC will discontinue the Railplus product in December 2023. Whether there will be a successor or not is still completely open at the moment.
