The Swedish airline Amapola Flyg won a tender from the Irish government. From July 26, 2021, the company will fly twice a week between Donegal and Dublin. Fokker 50s are used as the aircraft.
It is a PSO route that is subsidized by the state. The carrier operates a total of 12 Fokker 50s, which are used for both passenger and cargo flights. They have experience operating public service obligations, as they already fly seven subsidized routes in Sweden and Finland.
"I am pleased to announce that the Swedish operator Amapola has won the seven-month contract to operate the PSO's state-funded Donegal - Dublin route," said Transport Minister Eamon Ryan. “About the continuity of service on the Donegal. When this fixed-term contract expires, I plan to start another procurement process this summer to provide for a longer-term contract of up to four years on the route.
