Israel: Recovery in tourism is emerging

Israel is ramping up its infrastructure again: due to the increasing number of visitors, the Israel Airports Authority has already reopened Terminal 1 of Tel Aviv Airport for international departures and inaugurated a new night bus line to the north of the country from Tel Aviv.

The May visitor statistics published by the Israel Ministry of Tourism show signs of a recovery in international tourism. A total of 249.000 visitors traveled in May to explore Israel. Last year, 21.500 visitors arrived in the same month, and compared to the record year 2019 with 439.000 arrivals, this corresponds to a decrease of only 43 percent.

This recovery is also clearly evident in the applications for the construction of new hotel rooms, as the travel portal About Travel reports. These reached a record number of 10.000. This corresponds to an increase of 30 percent compared to 2019. The applications are more than 120 applications for the construction of new hotels and another 30 for extensions of existing houses.
