Insurtech launches rain insurance for vacationers

There are now many different types of travel insurance, but the Insurtech Wetterheld is now going one step further. You can insure your holiday against bad weather. If it rains on site, there should be money.

The new product is currently only available for EU destinations and must be purchased at least 14 days before departure. The amount of the bonus is to be calculated using algorithms that evaluate the weather situation at the holiday destination. For example, such an insurance over Easter for the destination Palma de Mallorca costs around 2,26 euros per day. 50 euros should be paid out per rainy day, but no more than 350 euros for the entire stay.

But what counts as rain anyway? If there is more than 10 millimeters of precipitation between 00:18 a.m. and 00:1,9 p.m., the money should flow. But there's still a catch: The payment is only made if it rains on at least two days during the holiday.
