ITA Airways has started long-haul routes from Milan-Malpensa

Alitalia's successor, ITA Airways, originally wanted to concentrate on the Rome-Fiumicino and Milan-Linate hubs. A long-distance connection is now also being flown from Milan Malpensa Airport, which is far from the city centre.

Initially, New York JFK will be served up to five times a week. Airbus A330-200 aircraft are used. It is in direct competition with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Emirates and Neos. La Compagnie also wants to fly to New York from Malpensa, but like United Airlines they fly to Newark Airport.

In recent weeks, ITA Airways has reactivated or increased numerous US destinations from Rome that were previously served by Alitalia. For example, there are currently 14 weekly rotations to New York JFK, five to Boston and four to Miami.
