The Alitalia airline is temporarily using Swissport to provide ground handling services at Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino airports. A preliminary agreement was signed, the long-term implementation of which depends on a completely different factor.

The offer period for the takeover of the ground services of the insolvent Alitalia expired on Monday. According to reports, Swissport International has submitted an offer for the takeover. A possible long-term agreement with ITA Airways also depends on this, because this will only exist if Swissport is awarded the contract for the part of the predecessor Alitalia that is up for sale.

ITA Airways does not have its own ground handling but currently uses the services of Alitalia. As part of the liquidation of what was once Italy's largest airline, the Ground Services division will also be sold.
