The Italian airline Ita has received official approval for flights to the United States of America from the US DOT. The Alitalia successor is scheduled to start commercial flight operations on October 15, 2021.

It is still open under which brand Italia Trasporto Aero will fly. The brand is currently tendered and will soon be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Then it remains to be seen whether that will be Ita.

On Friday, the new state-owned airline received the formal permit required to operate flights to the United States. This theoretically enables Ita to fly to the United States from other EU countries. It is currently planned that the destination New York will be offered from Milan. Boston, New York and Miami are to be served from Rome. Washington, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco are to be served later. Ita is supposed to take over the Alitalia slots at least on the routes to New York, Boston and Miami.
