Lufthansa is in a kind of pole position with Alitalia's successor ITA and, according to local media reports, has submitted a formal offer for a commercial cooperation. This should bring the start-up additional income of around 200 million euros per year.

According to an article in Corriere della Sera, the crane suggests cooperation in the areas of sales, spare parts and long-haul flights. ITA would be able to sell connections with Lufthansa, United Airlines and Air Canada. At the same time, Delta and the Skyteam are also positioning themselves and confirming that they also want to work with ITA.

According to the media report, Lufthansa emphasizes that synergies from the home markets of Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Austria can be used. In Italy there is speculation that the conclusion of a cooperation agreement could be the first step for a takeover by Lufthansa. Officially, nobody wants to comment on this, as the Italian government is not expected to sell them before 2023.
