Japan is tightening the travel rules that were issued due to the Omikron virus variant. Airlines are prohibited from selling tickets with a destination airport in Japan with immediate effect.
The state has largely closed the borders for foreigners again. Citizens and persons with a residence permit can still enter, but have to undergo a lengthy quarantine. Now there is a de facto landing ban, because the airlines are forbidden to sell tickets to Japan.
However, flights from Japan to other countries are not prohibited. However, it is unlikely that many routes will be maintained, as return flights may only be made by ferry or freight. The measure is initially limited to one month and will then be re-evaluated.
