The US low-cost airline Jetblue has now been officially allocated take-off and landing rights at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. It intends to add non-stop service from New York-JFK and Boston.
The carrier previously felt discriminated against by the Dutch slot coordinator ACNL and asked the US authorities for help. In the meantime, the United States of America, represented by the Ministry of Transport, has even filed an official complaint against the Netherlands. The allegations are: anti-competitive and discriminatory behavior.
This led to an offer from the ACNL. Jetblue has now offered these slots for the 2023 summer flight schedule. However, there is a catch: For the time being, the slots will only be allocated for the upcoming summer period of 2023 and not beyond. It is still completely open whether the low-cost airline will receive the necessary take-off and landing rights at Amsterdam-Schiphol in the following periods or not. In addition, the Dutch government wants to reduce capacity at the country's largest airport under the guise of environmental protection. Naturally, Jetblue is not very happy that the slots were only received temporarily.
The carrier also believes that it would damage its own reputation if it had to give up new admissions after a few months due to a lack of take-off and landing rights. The routes from Boston and New York-JFK are to be served with Airbus A321LR. As a precautionary measure, the appeals initiated with the help of the US government are being maintained.
