It is still completely unclear whether the US low-cost airline Jetblue will also be allowed to fly to Amsterdam in the 2024 summer flight schedule. Although the capacity reduction planned for Schiphol was canceled, the regulator has not yet awarded the take-off and landing rights that are now available again.
Jetblue originally received a basket because the government had intended to limit take-offs and landings at Schiphol under the guise of noise protection. The US carrier ran a storm against this and also sought diplomatic help. They were not the only carrier that would have lost take-off and landing rights, but they were the one that protested particularly loudly. At times it was discussed that KLM could be deprived of around 1.000 slots in the United States.
The capacity reduction is now off the table because the EU Commission urgently advised the Dutch government that infringement proceedings could be initiated. The take-off and landing rights that are now available again for the 2024 summer flight schedule have not yet been reassigned, but it is expected that this will be the case very soon.
Jetblue has now set its sights on another European destination. In Lisbon, they say they have applied for 840 pairs of slots. The intention is to set course for this airport twice a day. Boston and New York are up for debate. The start in Portugal is not yet fixed, because the coveted take-off and landing rights still have to be allocated.
