For some time now, Eurowings has been offering the reservation of a vacant middle seat against payment. Previously, this was only possible by phone, but now passengers who want more space can book this themselves online.

Numerous airlines have recognized that some travelers want to have more distance and are also willing to reach into their wallets for it. Since the capacity utilization of many flights is already weak, this need is just right for the airlines battered by the crisis in order to be able to earn a little "Körberlgeld".

At Eurowings, the online reservation of the vacant middle seat will cost at least ten euros. The pricing is dynamic and therefore varies depending on the route and demand. The carrier declares that this can be purchased when booking the ticket or afterwards via the homepage, the hotline and at the airport counters. The offer should be open to all passengers subject to availability. Eurowings wants to mark the reserved seats by means of a cover on the headrests "Reserved free space".

“We have to acknowledge that in times of the corona pandemic there are millions of unsettled customers who now place particular value on a little more distance on board when flying - be it for reasons of comfort or hygiene. With our improved option of offering the free middle seat from as little as 10 euros and making it easy to book online, we are responding to these changed customer requests, ”says company boss Jens Bischof.
