For the upcoming anniversary of Johann Strauss Jr. in 2025, the city of Vienna is offering a new musical discovery tour through the life of the waltz king. The "Johann Strauss Walk" is an interactive audio walk that is available via the destination app "ivie". In around 30 minutes, the tour takes you through Vienna to eleven stations that are connected to the life and work of the composer.
The route includes places such as the golden Strauss statue in the Stadtpark, the Karlskirche, the Theater an der Wien, the Vienna State Opera and the "Johann Strauss Museum - New Dimensions", an immersive exhibition. Other notable points include the Casino Zögernitz, the "House of Strauss" and the composer's honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery. It is particularly noteworthy that all of the music on the tour was recorded by the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra, consisting of 42 musicians - an original recording according to Strauss's specifications.
The "Johann Strauss Walk" is not only intended to bring the work of the famous waltz composer to life, but also to lead up to the 2025 theme year "King of Waltz. Queen of Music." Johann Strauss Jr. is celebrated as a cultural icon of Vienna and of global music history. The "ivie" app also informs users about other cultural events and sights in the city.
As part of the anniversary year 2025, 65 productions are planned on around 250 performance days in all 23 districts of Vienna. The "Johann Strauss Walk" offers both Viennese and visitors a unique opportunity to experience the city in the footsteps of the Waltz King.
