The Canarian Hoteliers Association wants to ensure better occupancy of the hotels in the future. To this end, a new carrier is being launched under the “Canarian Airways” brand. Operationally behind this is the ACMI provider One Airways, which has a 50 percent stake.
Initially, the plan is to offer flights from Tenerife South to Madrid, Barcelona, Vigo and Bilbao, Glasgow, Cardiff and Berlin. The first flight is announced for June 5, 2021. Canarian Airways is owned by One Airways, the regional government of the Canaries and the local hotelier association ASHOTEL. The public sector is contributing around 700.000 euros.
Initially one wants to start with the Airbus A319 with the registration EC-NMO. It has 144 seats and is around nine years old. Óscar Trujillo, CEO of One Airways, and Jorge Marchial, President of the hotelier association ASHOTEL act as managing directors of Canarian Airways. As mentioned, the operations of the flights will be carried out by One Airways. Canarian Airways will enter the market as a so-called “virtual airline”.
