The Kazakh government intends to remove airliners and helicopters older than 40 years from commercial air traffic. A corresponding law is currently being discussed in parliament.

If this were to become legally binding, operators would no longer be allowed to use machines that are over this age within Kazakhstan, in the country's airspace and in international traffic. Exceptions are provided for aircraft that are explicitly intended for classic car sightseeing flights. Otherwise there is a risk of official deletion from the register in the commercial sector.

This also includes the fact that commercial aircraft and helicopters built before 1975 can no longer be entered in the Kazakh register. Kazakhstan also wants to ensure that aircraft that are more than 25 years old are no longer used in cargo traffic. Affected operators hope that there will be exceptions for aircraft that are already registered. However, should Kazakhstan not allow this, this could pose major challenges for some operators.
