The Czech private railway Regiojet is participating in the new climate ticket. While Westbahn and Austrian Federal Railways have communicated more or less clearly under which conditions the network card is accepted, Regiojet has been cautious until the end.

A company spokesman confirmed to Aviation Direct that the climate ticket is accepted in the Regiojet trains up to the respective border station. On the route to Prague is Břeclav and in the direction of Budapest it is Hegyeshalom. In concrete terms, this means that you don't have to buy a ticket with the climate ticket from Vienna to the above-mentioned train stations, even if they are abroad. However, if you continue to drive, you have to buy a regular ticket from the border station to the destination in the Czech Republic or Hungary.

The climate ticket is generally not valid in the Regiojet long-distance buses that run from Vienna to Prague, Brno, Bratislava, Györ and Budapest, for example. A spokesman confirmed that only the trains and not the buses can be used with the climate ticket.

In order to be able to use the new Austrian network card with Regiojet in the direction of the Czech Republic or Hungary (and vice versa), you have to purchase a seat reservation. This costs around two euros in the standard class and 2,80 euros in the relax class. According to the Regiojet spokesman, if you do not acquire these, you can only be promoted if there are free seats on the train you are getting on.

Seat reservation for a fee is necessary for the on-board service

In an interview with Aviation Direct, the media officer pointed out a special circumstance that is specific to this railway company: “Without the seat reservation, the passengers have limited use of the on-board service. They can connect to the WiFi or the entertainment portal, but they cannot use the on-board catering or other services. This is linked to seat reservation, with which climate ticket holders receive full service in the respective class. Seat reservations are mandatory when using the Relax Class and Standard Class (except Astra). Passengers must purchase seat reservations for their trip. Without a seat reservation, you can only travel if the seats are available in the low-cost and Astra classes ”.

The paid seat reservation can be made on the Regiojet homepage as well as at their sales counters. If you do this yourself via the Internet, select the train you want and then click on “Seat Reservation” at the bottom. A ticket number is then requested. Enter the number of the climate ticket here. Upon request by the staff, the reservation confirmation and the air-conditioning ticket must be shown on board. As already mentioned: Regiojet accepts the new Austrian network card between Vienna and Břeclav vv as well as Vienna and Hegyeshalom vv - a regular ticket has to be bought from the mentioned train stations or from Hungary / Czech Republic to there. Excursions from Austria to / from Hegyeshalom or Břeclav are included in the climate ticket, with the exception of the reservation.
