After Austrian Airlines closed the crew bases Salzburg, Klagenfurt and Altenrhein on March 31, 2020 and Linz, Graz and Innsbruck on October 31, 2020, maintenance of the aircraft is now to be centralized in Vienna. Furthermore, Salzburg and Klagenfurt terminated the ground handling contracts, so that the AUA ground staff there is also affected.

As a result of the takeover of Tyrolean Airways, Austrian Airlines has historically maintained ground handling services at some Austrian federal state airports. Graz was the first regional airport to set up its own ground handling subsidiary. According to the AUA press release, the relevant contract has now been terminated by the airports of Klagenfurt and Salzburg. The two airports want to take on these tasks themselves in the future.

In Mozart's city, this has severe consequences for AUA employees, because the carrier declares in a press release that no company transfer solution could be found. Those affected should, however, receive offers to move to Vienna. Austrian Airlines writes that if a change of residence is not possible, amicable solutions should be found.

The situation is still open in Klagenfurt, as discussions are currently underway with the airport that should lead to a transfer of operations. According to Austrian Airlines, the aim is for employees to continue to work at Klagenfurt Airport. The new employer would then be the airport or a handling subsidiary that is affiliated with it.
