The Dutch airline KLM Cityhopper expects that the problems with Pratt & Whitney's GTF engines will become even more severe in the coming years.
According to Maarten Koopmans, managing director of the KLM regional subsidiary, the situation will not ease until 2026. In order to maintain the condition of the aircraft, some of the Embraer E195-E2s will be temporarily decommissioned. KLM Cityhopper currently operates 18 of these E2 jets and expects to receive seven more by 2025. The decision to purchase another 25 jets in this series is expected to be made at the end of 2024. At the same time, the airline plans to gradually phase out the older E190 fleet by 2029, with five to six aircraft being retired each year.
