The KLM regional branch Cityhopper has taken over the first of a total of 25 Embraer 195-E2s that have been ordered. This year six more copies are to be delivered. The first commercial use is scheduled for March 1, 2021.

KLM Cityhopper has had 132 seats in the new regional jet. The carrier's fleet currently consists of 32 E190s, 17 E175s and the brand new E195-E2. A few years ago, the KLM subsidiary was a pure Fokker operator. Due to the fact that the Dutch aircraft manufacturer slid into bankruptcy in the 1990s, it was not possible to buy machines from domestic production. Cityhopper therefore gradually switched to Embraer.

“The 195-E2 is not only an economically attractive aircraft, it also fits perfectly with our Fly Responsibly sustainability approach. This will enable KLM to make its own activities and the entire sector more sustainable. More than ever, we are committed to reducing the impact on our environment and our ecological footprint. The fleet renewal is currently making the greatest contribution to reducing CO2 emissions, ”says Warner Rootliep, Managing Director of KLM Cityhopper.

The regional airline will increase the sub-fleet to four E195-E2s before the summer flight schedule begins. These are to be used in the European network on behalf of the parent company KLM. More aircraft will follow this year and the remaining 18 will be delivered in the coming years. KLM also has an option for another 10 195-E2. Cityhopper is now the largest customer of the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer in Europe.

“We are incredibly proud that, with KLC, we have made such a major contribution to the development of KLM's European network in recent years. The more efficient, more sustainable and more comfortable 195-E2 strengthens our competitive position, ”said Warner.
