The airline's plans are vanishing into thin air: the scheduled service that KLM wanted to start between Schiphol and Phuket in the fall of this year has been canceled.

"The current circumstances have caused us not to start the route," said Sicco Marsman, Vice President Network Planning, in an interview with Luchtvaartnieuws Magazine. KLM announced Phuket in May as one of the six new long-haul destinations for the winter season. A Boeing 777-300ER will fly to the Thai holiday island four times a week from the end of October, with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur on the way there.

Both Kuala Lumpur and Phuket are subject to very strict local entry requirements. For this reason, according to the airline, it is not possible to implement the original plans.

Also changes to US routes

KLM will be flying non-stop from Schiphol to Miami and Orlando this winter season. Originally, both destinations were to be approached via a triangular flight. These plans are now being thrown overboard and the cities should be served independently of each other, a spokesman confirmed aviationnieuws.nl.

In the winter flight schedule, which goes into effect October 31, Miami will have direct flights on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Orlando is scheduled for Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. "Of course there can be changes," said the spokesman. Both destinations are served by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
