The Dutch airline KLM placed a major order with Recaro: a total of 5.500 SL3710 seats were ordered. These are to be built into the Embraer 190/195 and Boeing 737-800 machines. For Recaro, this order also means that a step is being taken in the direction of regional airliners.

KLM particularly expects ongoing cost savings from the new seats. Due to the lightweight construction, the weight is quite low at around eight kilograms per armchair. This should reduce fuel costs. According to Recaro, the benefit per aircraft per year should be “a few thousand euros”.

“We are thrilled that our long-term partner KLM is the first customer for our new SL3710, as we are both working towards the goal of making air travel more comfortable, more sustainable and more efficient. Not only is this our first step into regional air traffic, but it is also the first time that Recaro has fitted out Embraer aircraft. We do not take this opportunity lightly, and we look forward to further pursuing our vision of 'driving comfort in the sky' ”, says Recaro Aircraft Seating boss Mark Hiller.
