The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings is flying non-stop to the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, for the first time in the company's history. The carrier carried out the first flight from Cologne / Bonn with an Airbus A320 on Friday. There were 150 passengers on board.
“It is a great pleasure for us at Eurowings to serve the Armenian market for the first time and to regularly offer Eurowings flights from the international airport“ Zvartnots ”in Yerevan to Cologne / Bonn. Together with Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa and now also Eurowings, one of the leading European low-cost carriers, we are pleased to expand the Lufthansa Group's presence in Yerevan and thus to offer more opportunities for travelers from Armenia ”, says René Koinzack, General Manager Sales Ukraine, South Caucasus, Belarus and Turkmenistan Lufthansa Group.
For some time now, Eurowings has been rushing into the so-called ethnic traffic business. Germania and SunExpress Germany were previously strongly represented in this. Both of these carriers no longer exist. The Lufthansa cheap subsidiary is now trying to establish itself in this area. The flights expand the range of “family and home visits”, in which the Lufthansa subsidiary already offers numerous connections to, for example, Greece, Croatia, Algeria, Turkey, Beirut in Lebanon or Erbil in northern Iraq. Most recently, flights to Tbilisi, Georgia, and Yekaterinburg and Krasnodar in Russia were added to the program in July.
Marcelo Wende, Director of “Armenia” International Airport ”CJSC, said:“ We are delighted that Eurowings is entering the Armenian market. We congratulate the airline and wish it a successful operation and safe flights. From now on the opportunities to travel directly to Europe will increase. "
