Korean Air posted operating profit equivalent to $ 2021 million in the first quarter of 110. Revenue declined 24 percent year over year to $ 1,5 billion, driven by the decline in passenger demand caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Compared to the first quarter of 2020, the freight business actually more than doubled. Despite the reduced belly cargo capacity on passenger flights due to the pandemic, the carrier has succeeded in maximizing cargo operations. The airline is making full use of its 23 freighters, operating passenger flights only with cargo and converting passenger planes into freighters.

Due to the persistent travel restrictions around the world, passenger demand is still low. Nevertheless, despite the challenges, Korean Air increased passenger sales through charter flights for repatriation and for business purposes as well as through "Flights to Nowhere".

Korean Air expects the global economy to recover as the vaccination process progresses, which in turn will lead to increased demand for air freight.
