Since the beginning of the corona pandemic, Korean Air has operated more than 10.000 cargo flights with passenger aircraft. Since then, 65 tons have been transported on 400.000 routes to North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, China and Japan. Around 40 tons were transported per return flight.
After most of the passenger flights were suspended after the COVID-19 outbreak, Korean Air began using cargo-only routes, albeit with passenger planes. The airline started with 38 flights of this type in March last year and now operates more than 800 cargo flights per month.
"We anticipate that pure cargo flights with passenger planes will play a more important role in the second half of the year, when the volume of imports and exports typically increases," said a representative from Korean Air. "As a Korean airline, Korean Air will continue its efforts to to create a stable logistical environment for imports and exports by actively securing freight capacities. "
Korean Air recorded the longest flight on June 12, 2021 when it came to transporting pandemic relief supplies. Cargo flight KE8047 flew 13.405 kilometers with a flight time of 14 hours and 42 minutes from Incheon Airport to Miami Airport (USA).
In order to equalize the acute demand in air freight, the airline is continuously increasing its capacities, also with regard to new routes.
