A medical emergency occurred on a domestic flight operated by Binter Canaris on December 12, 2023. A nurse who happened to be on board was able to save the life of the affected passenger. 

The ATR503-72 with the Spanish registration EC-OAN was on its way from Lanzarote to Gran Canaria under the flight number NT600. It is a routine short-haul flight between two Canary Islands. At first everything looked like “business as usual”. But suddenly a male passenger wasn't feeling well at all. 

According to official reports, the traveler suffered a heart attack and was fighting for his life. A nurse who happened to be a passenger on board recognized the emergency situation and demonstrated her medical experience. With the help of other passengers and the cabin crew, the passenger in distress was first laid on the floor. 

The nurse immediately administered first aid measures. She is also said to have had a heart massage. Her mission was successful because she managed to stabilize the man and save him from possibly certain death. Both the other occupants of the flight and the airline Binter Canaris rightly celebrate the woman as a hero. 

After landing at Las Palmas Airport, the sick man was handed over to the emergency services as a precaution. He was then taken to a nearby hospital for further examination and treatment. It is not known what could possibly have led to the heart attack. In any case, the man is said to be doing well – given the circumstances.
