The first Corona year (2020) hit the cruise industry particularly hard. Only about 530.000 passengers were carried across the EU, 93 percent fewer than before the crisis. This emerges from figures published by the German Federal Statistical Office.

Before the pandemic, the industry counted around 7,4 million travelers, setting an all-time record in 2019. This was followed by the almost complete crash due to the corona crisis. The figures published by the Federal Statistical Office are based on records kept by Eurostat.
