The Mexican low-cost airline Interjet is entering insolvency proceedings under local law after a lengthy dispute among the owners. The carrier has not been flying for a few months and can no longer pay the wages.

Nevertheless, it took a comparatively long time to apply for a restructuring process. The background is that there were initially disagreements among the shareholders. Now an agreement has been reached. In a statement, the carrier writes that it would like to open up to investors via the current procedure.

Cuba is interested in superjets

Interjet aims to resume flight operations. You cannot give a specific date, just write “as soon as possible”. You also want to settle the outstanding debts you have with the staff quickly. Intensive negotiations are to be held with the creditors over the next few weeks. These should lead to a redevelopment plan.

It is possible that the 21 Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 could soon bring fresh money into the till. The carrier has been trying to get rid of these machines for a long time, but there was no serious demand even before the corona pandemic. These are not leasing planes, but Interjet is the owner. According to a spokesman, Interjet is in final negotiations with Cuba. These should lead to a sale. The Cuban government is interested in purchasing the 21 regional jets in order to be able to modernize the outdated fleet of its state airline.
