The tourism council of the regional government of the Canary Islands wants to improve the connection of the island of La Palma. One wants to establish 18 new international flight connections. In return, airlines are offered financial travel of up to 200.000 euros per route.

Payment is to be made primarily in the form of vouchers. However, the carriers must commit themselves to maintaining the new admissions for at least two years. Appropriate marketing measures must also be implemented in the source markets. However, there are financial grants for this.

La Palma has lost quite a bit of connectivity as a result of the volcanic eruption that occurred last year. According to official figures, the supply in the summer of 2022 was 16,8 percent below the pre-crisis level. In the 2022/23 winter timetable, there are even 21,8 percent fewer flights. The measures should lead to more tourists coming to the Canary Island again.

Subsidies will therefore be distributed for a total of 18 new routes. New flight connections from/to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Sweden and the UK have been particularly considered. Those responsible emphasize that the destinations have been selected in accordance with the legal provisions.
