A few days ago, passengers of the airline Dana Air at Lagos Airport received the bad news that their flights to Port Harcourt and Sam Mbakwe had been canceled without replacement. As a result, some passengers completely freaked out and attacked airport and airline facilities.

On February 12, 2024, at around 18:00 p.m. local time, Dana Air had to announce that two flights had to be permanently canceled after a long delay. The flight was actually supposed to have taken place the day before, but was postponed until lunchtime the following day without giving any further reasons. But nothing came of it either, because after a long wait the airline said it would be canceled without replacement. The mood was already heated.

Some passengers seemed to have completely lost their nerve and thought they had to cut down on the airport facilities and check-in counters. Confirming the incident, an official from the executive branch told local media that immediately after the announcement that the two flights were canceled, a few angry passengers started causing havoc. He added that the airline had failed to provide specific information about replacement transport, rebooking and/or refund of ticket money.

Eyewitnesses explain that the angry mob attacked or destroyed the airport's infrastructure and the airline's computers. According to reports, employees were also physically attacked or beaten. Both the security service and the police had to intervene to ensure peace and order. Some people were arrested, although it is unclear whether they have since been released. Remarkable: After the tumult, the airline managed to find airworthy aircraft, because around 21 p.m. those passengers who were not in police custody were flown out.
