An anniversary for a groundbreaking development: For 175 years, rails have traveled through the Swiss mountains. Switzerland enjoys a worldwide reputation as the ultimate railway country. Hardly any other country has a better infrastructure for rail traffic, despite the challenging geographic and climatic conditions. Even in snowy winters, passengers can reach remote places and small villages in the Alps - and have been since 1847.

To mark the anniversary, there is now a big railway festival in Landquart on June 11th and 12th, 2022. There, railway enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the history of Swiss railways and find out about new developments and projects. The Rhaetian Railway invites you to the railway festival together with its partners PostAuto, Chur and Engadin Bus. A varied program awaits at four locations around the Landquart train station.

Two days railway festival with many highlights

The history of the Swiss railways is extensive, varied and filled with many anecdotes. The railway festival with exhibitions and guided tours provides an insight. In the main workshop in Landquart, everything revolves around the history of the Rhaetian Railway. A 30-minute program offers a guided journey through time to the UNESCO World Heritage site on the Albula/Bernina route. Other exhibitions show the world of freight trains and special vehicles that are used on the rails. In addition, during the two days, guests will receive information in numerous lectures on exciting railway topics and on various guided tours. It goes, for example, through the operations center, the main workshop and the infrastructure base. Guests commute between the different venues every half hour with the free steam shuttle. On the station square, PostBus provides information about bus operations in Switzerland in the past and in the future with the Bus World. There are vintage cars waiting, but also innovations such as electric buses. The festivities in the modern depot hall and at the goods handling center of the Rhaetian Railway offer a wide range of culinary delights.

Lots of fun and excitement for families

The Rhaetian Railway and its partners also have a varied program for families with large and small railway enthusiasts. On Saturday, the children's conductor Clà Ferrovia takes the youngsters through the railway world. In the outdoor play area at the main workshop, the little ones can romp around to their heart's content. The Railway Festival scavenger hunt and the Train Games promise excitement and fun when discovering the railway facilities. Attractive prizes await the winners.

Notes and organization

There are no reservations for the railway festival. Registrations can be made on site at one of the four info points. The various event offers have limited places for the participants.
