South American Latam Airlines has ordered 17 additional Airbus A321neo aircraft at the Farnborough Air Show. It was also confirmed that the A321XLR will be used as a supplement on long-haul routes.
“We welcome LATAM's strategic vision and commitment to sustainability. This post-restructuring order for the A321neo is a strong sign of the value Airbus brings to the realization of this vision and goal. The A321XLR will enable the opening of new routes and allow LATAM to increase its international reach in the region,” said Christian Scherer, Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International.
Taking into account the latest order, Latam Airlines' backlog increases to 100 A320neo aircraft. The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus' A320neo Family, which features new-generation engines and Sharklets, delivering more than 2 percent fuel and CO20 savings and a 50 percent noise reduction. The A321XLR version offers a further range extension to 4.700 nm, giving the aircraft a flight time of up to 11 hours. Last month, the A321XLR took off for the first time and successfully completed its first test flight.
