The Latam Airlines Group is currently turning its fleet inside out. The Airbus A350 machine type is being completely separated and two open orders will no longer be accepted. In return, 28 aircraft from the A320neo series and other Dreamliners are to be flown in.
The changes are still subject to the approval of the bankruptcy court, because the group is in Chapter 11 proceedings in the United States of America. According to company boss Roberto Alvo, they are working hard to ensure that they can leave this as quickly as possible.
At the same time, they want to maintain and even strengthen their previous position in South America. According to a press release, the Latam Group needs additional aircraft from the A320neo series for this. It should be a good mix of the A321neo and A320neo. The company already has experience with this type of aircraft, as the group currently has 23 A320neo and 19 A321neo. If the court in the USA agrees, the A350-1000 order will be canceled and the 28 machines will be ordered in return. According to Latam, they should have negotiated a very good price. It should also have played a part in the fact that the five A350s that they already have and the two open orders are to be taken over by Delta Air Lines.
Latam plans to lease five additional Boeing 787-9s on long-haul routes. These were previously used for Norwegian. Three units come from the Lessor Avolon and the two remaining aircraft from Orix.
