The closure of the Lauda base in Vienna is causing quite a stir in social media, because the Vida union in particular is currently exposed to a real shit storm. Elsewhere, unaffected people are more likely to post their joy about the impending layoffs of the Lauda personnel on the move. Lauda employees show their sympathy for Vida and fans of the German airline Austrian Airlines show their antipathy for Lauda. But in the eyes of SPÖ traffic spokesman Alois Stöger, Sebastian Kurz and Norbert Hofer, who celebrated the “Austrian solution” with Niki Lauda at the time, are to blame for the whole situation.

“The promises made by Kurz and Hofer at the time are not kept, the employees have to pay for it. That the Chamber of Commerce stabbed the employees in the back and accepted wages that are far below the collective agreement and below the poverty line is a scandal in itself, ”Stöger wrote in a broadcast.

With criticism of Finance Minister Gernot Blümel (ÖVP) the Lauda managing directors Andreas Gruber and David O'Brien do not save. Despite repeated requests for mediation, the latter “did not lift a finger” and was also negotiating with the German airline Austrian Airlines for around 800 million euros in state aid. This is "a scandal" in the eyes of the two managers of the Ryanair subsidiary.

Short-time working for the flying personnel at the Lauda base in Vienna will end on May 22, 2020. After the statutory dismissal protection has expired, they should start their notice period. An early registration to the labor market service will be made. The routes are taken over by the Ryanair group sisters. Due to the corona pandemic, the prospects for new jobs for the approximately 300 people affected are currently extremely poor. SPÖ politician Alois Stöger therefore calls for political help for the Lauda employees at the Vienna base.
