The Austrian Ryanair subsidiary Lauda conceded the next defeat in court: At the end of June, the company kicked out a heavily pregnant crew trainer and disregarded the protection against dismissal. But not only that: With 17 other women who are expecting offspring, Laudamotion sued for consent to the termination. That has now been rejected by the court. The union welcomes the decision.
“Ryanair has been pursuing an unscrupulous dumping policy in Austria for months. Personnel management follows the principle of fear. In order to intimidate employees and agree to worsening conditions, the group repeatedly breaks Austrian laws, ”says Vida specialist group leader Daniel Liebhart. “In order for the protection against dismissal and the special employee protection regulations to take effect, employers should be informed of the pregnancy as soon as possible. Laudamotion cannot defy Austrian laws either, but has to adhere to them. This patriarchal approach towards female employees is a bottomless cheek that should be put to a halt ”.
Politicians are called upon to prevent such machinations in Austria in advance. “The court rulings at Laudamotion show that our legal system works, but the burden on employees is unreasonable until the verdict is pronounced,” says Liebhart. The Ryanair group is meanwhile exactly on this card and hopes that the employees unconditionally submit to the "medieval leadership style of the management, since it would take months before a court restores Austrian law". The employees also know that this is associated with further consequences and new violations of the law.
