The Iranian refugee who lived in Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport for around 18 years and even inspired Hollywood to create the film "Terminal" has passed away. The airport confirmed that Mehran Karimi Nasseri died in Terminal 2F on Saturday afternoon. According to the police, it was a natural death through no fault of one's own.

The fate of Nasseri was picked up by Stephen Spielberg and brought to the cinemas in the form of the film "Terminal". However, there are significant differences to the real story of the Iranian, because in reality it took place in France. However, the refugee benefited from the film adaptation, because Hollywood let him benefit financially from the success. This also meant that the man was able to live in a hotel for a few years before he "moved" back to the airport.

In 1988, Nasseri, who came from Iran, wanted to transfer to Paris-Charles de Gaulle. However, a “whoops” happened. In the transit area, he lost his passport, including his visa and other documents. This led to the incredible situation that he was trapped in "no man's land". He was not allowed to enter France or fly on to another country. So he was stuck in the transit area of the airport.

The situation was complicated because he lived in the terminal for a whopping 18 years and was forced to settle down at home. It is also remarkable that he later received an entry permit to France and initially lived in a home and was even able to afford a hotel with the money from Hollywood. In September 2022, he then moved back to Charles de Gaulle Airport, where he made himself at home again. He passed away on Saturday afternoon at the age of 76. The airport confirmed that he was found in Terminal 2F and the police said it was a natural death through no fault of their own or anyone else's.

The Iranian lived in Terminal 1 at Charles de Gaulle Airport for years. He tried in vain to persuade France and other countries to allow him to travel in or out. It was only in 1999 that Paris gave in and issued him a special visa. Curious: The man then did not want to leave his accommodation, which he had set up under an escalator. He stayed until 2006, when his health deteriorated rapidly and required hospital treatment.

After that, Mehran Karimi Nasseri was initially not drawn back to the airport. He initially lived in a refugee home before he was able to afford a hotel room with the money he received from Steven Spielberg for inspiration for the film "Terminal". In mid-September 2022, he then moved back to Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport. Nobody knows exactly why he did it. It is believed that he ran out of money. Airport workers told local media that he stared dejectedly into space with few belongings packed in a suitcase.
