An Ilyushin IL 76TD-90VD cargo aircraft of the Volga-Dnepr took off yesterday from Leipzig / Halle with destination Ashgabat in Turkmenistan. There were 35 tons of vaccine on board, which were transported on behalf of a UN organization.

“As Europe's fourth largest air freight hub, Leipzig / Halle Airport is playing an increasingly important role in the handling of medical aid supplies and temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals. We want to further strengthen this function and have therefore agreed to cooperate with our partner, the Volga-Dnepr-Group, again this year, ”says Mario Patyk, Head of Business Development Cargo / Logistics.

At the beginning of 2021, the Volga Dnepr Group and the airport signed a letter of intent to strengthen the humanitarian hub in Leipzig / Halle. In August, two relief goods flights started from Leipzig / Halle Airport to Windhoek in Namibia.
