DeliveryMichel delivers medication by drone

For residents of the Michelstadt districts served as part of the LieferMichel pilot project, the year begins with two pieces of good news: you can continue to have small errands delivered conveniently and CO2-neutrally by drone and cargo bike. The range is also being expanded to include non-prescription medications.

The extension of the project until the end of March makes it possible to pursue the main project goals over a longer period of time. These goals include implementing safe drone flight operations in unrestricted airspace, including over the winter months, as well as analyzing demand for delivery services in rural areas.

The Bären-Apotheke from Erbach is now adding a product category that many residents have explicitly requested. The pharmacy is integrated into the LieferMichel platform and offers a selection of non-prescription medications. In addition, since the project began, users have been able to choose from a large range of goods from the local REWE center. In addition, over the course of the project, Odenwaldbox, a provider of regional products, and SV Darmstadt 98 with a selection of fan items were added to the platform.

“We are always looking for ways to offer our customers an even better shopping experience and to improve local supply options. Here in rural areas, the long journeys often make it difficult for sick people to get their medication quickly. “We are therefore very happy to have our first experiences with drone-based deliveries as part of the LieferMichel project,” comments Frank Buffleb, pharmacist and owner of the Bären-Apotheke in Erbach.
