On Thursday, April 8, 2021, the employees of the Austrian Airlines station in Linz are invited to an information event in the large meeting room at Linz-Hörsching Airport. The topic of this works meeting is the upcoming transfer of operations to ISS Ground Services.

Representatives from Austrian Airlines, ISS and Linz Airport will be present at the employee conference. The employees of the ground station intended to be closed should be informed about the further procedure. As in Graz, Salzburg and Klagenfurt, the AUA will no longer offer ground services such as check-in or boarding.

In Graz they withdrew from this segment a few years ago. Salzburg and Klagenfurt were given up in the previous year. In Mozart's city, there was no transfer of operations to the airport's handling subsidiary. Such was negotiated in Carinthia, but those affected did not make use of it.

Employees have already been registered with the AMS early warning system

26 employees are affected in Linz. Austrian Airlines has already reimbursed A few days ago an early warning to the responsible labor market service. The employees are not obliged to make use of the transfer of operations. According to reports, there should be an alternative - analogous to Klagenfurt - also a social plan. Transfer to Vienna should also be possible in individual cases. According to the works council, however, only one AUA employee took advantage of this opportunity in Klagenfurt.

Regarding Linz, the 26 AUA ground workers will be officially informed about the further procedure on Thursday from 14:00 p.m. by their employer, ISS Ground Services and Linz Airport. Some Austrian Airlines employees in Linz have expressed concerns about Aviation Direct, but want to hear the information that is to be announced at the meeting before making their personal decision.

Ground services only in Vienna and Innsbruck

The imminent closure of the Linz ground station means that Austrian Airlines will in future only offer such services in Vienna and Innsbruck. The fact that one was or is active in this segment in the federal states is due to history. In the course of the establishment of the former regional subsidiary AAS (Austrian Air Services), half of which belonged to the federal state airports, these services were brought into the joint venture. With the merger of AAS with Tyrolean Airways, the ground handling services came to this company. Tyrolean was later completely taken over by AUA and only merged with it a few years ago.

Over the past 20 years, Austrian Airlines has increasingly withdrawn from the federal states. For example, one no longer drives to Salzburg and Linz at all. From Innsbruck and Graz, the offer was manageable even before the corona pandemic. Once there was a dense regional network due to the takeover of Tyrolean. The AUA presence from Klagenfurt has been limited to the connection to the Vienna hub for several years.
