Skyteam member Korean Air was recently awarded the "Center of Excellence for Independent Validators (CEIV) Lithium Batteries" certificate by IATA. To mark the occasion, representatives of the airline, Incheon International Airport Corporation and IATA met at the Grand Hyatt Incheon on May 25, 2023.
Launched in 2021, CEIV lithium battery certification establishes and validates core standards to improve the level of competency and quality management in the handling and transportation of lithium battery shipments throughout the supply chain. As part of the certification, experts carry out an in-depth assessment of all aspects of the transport process and procedures based on standardized test criteria, which count 240 points. This ensures that the respective actor meets the standards of the program.
Lithium battery transportation accounts for more than 10 percent of the airline's total air freight volume. The airline expects that number to increase with consumer demand for smartphones, portable electronics and electric vehicles.
