The Slovenian government intends to use subsidies to attract more low-cost airlines to Ljubljana Airport. According to the daily newspaper "Dnevnik", Ryanair, Easyjet and Wizz Air have shown particular interest.

Negotiations on possible cooperation agreements have been underway with the three providers for some time. So far, however, the responsible ministry has not been able to conclude a contract. The carriers hope for financial support for the development of new flight connections. So far, however, there has not been any expansion, but rather reduction.

It is currently not foreseeable whether a subsidy agreement can be concluded with one of the three carriers or with the entire trio. Accordingly, it is still completely unclear which routes will be involved. Ryanair has long been said to be eyeing Ljubljana. Negotiations with competitor Wizz Air over possible flights from Maribor have now fizzled out.
