Shortly before Easter, the Slovenian government announced the tender for subsidies for new routes that had been expected for some time. It is noteworthy that carriers that offer lower air fares and can demonstrate “better environmental compatibility” are to be given preferential treatment.

Among other things, connections from Ljubljana to Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Madrid, Prague, Vienna and Skopje are to be financially supported. In a second step, the destinations Barcelona, Lisbon, Oslo, Paris Orly, Pristina, Rome Fiumicino and Stockholm Arlanda will be advertised. A total of 16,8 million euros in subsidies are planned for a period of three years. The state will cover 50 percent of the value of airport charges for a single route. Airlines can submit their applications until May 4, 2023.
