London Heathrow Airport posted a loss of £ 1,782 billion last year. A year earlier the company posted a profit of £ 413 million. The cause of the high shortfall is the corona pandemic.
Heathrow recently became the first European airport a new submissionwhich has to be carried out by every passenger due to the corona crisis. The largest airport in Europe counted only 22,1 million passengers last year. In a direct comparison with 2019, this corresponds to a decrease of 75 percent. According to management, around eleven million travelers flew in January and February 2020.
The board of directors anticipates that existing funding of £ 3,9 billion will be sufficient by approximately 2023. However, it is hoped that after the lifting of all corona measures on June 21, 2021 there will be a rapid increase in passenger numbers. After Prime Minister Boris Johnson's speech, airlines and tour operators listed significant growth in the area of new bookings.
